Reliability, quality and performance are some of the traits of a great automobile. They also can be found in great production employees. An example is Joene Oyler, a seven-year veteran at the DaimlerChrysler casting plant in Kokomo, Ind. Joene’s 1,250 co-workers say she stands out because of her work ethic, positive attitude and pride in the product. Her reliability (she never misses work), quality (she is constantly on the lookout for ways to improve processes) and performance (she is driven to make quality parts) inspire all of those around her.

Last January, those co-workers voted her the plant’s employee of the year. This fall, they nominated her for the All-Pro Team. “Joene is an excellent employee,” says UAW Local 1166 president Pat Cooper. “She works well with others and treats people with respect.”

Oyler steadfastly believes that one person can make a difference, even in a huge production facility.

“We are all on the same team,” she says. “But as individuals, we need to improve on a daily basis. We have to put a little of ourselves into that product. I want people to trust in our products and buy them year after year.”
